Windmill Sponsor Local Youth Team
Here at Windmill we believe it's important to support our local community and over the last few years we've contributed to a number of local charities through our "Windmill in the community" programme. The latest contribution is our support of local under 11's football team TSC United. Whilst Andy and Ian are avid Man City supporters and it pained us to have to put the Windmill logo on a red shirt we overcame our prejudices to make sure the boys have a smart kit to play in each week!!
Playing in the East Manchester Junior Football League in Division 1 the newly promoted team are gradually settling into this tough division and we wish them well for the rest of the season!!

Windmill are pleased to announce the arrival of our latest piece of machinery, the new Omega SRi slitter rewinder from AB Graphic International (Germany).
The SRi is the latest label finishing line from ABG and incorporates their servo driven rollers to ensure excellent tension control and high speed rewinding – up to 300m/min. The machine will meet the ever increasing demand for greater production efficiency and will allow us to die cut both plain and pre-printed material at high speed and in large volumes. We expect to double our current output from the Ashe slitter/rewinder currently employed in the flexographic area of the business.
The SRi is fitted with an auto re-register device which enables accurate die cutting of printed stock, a process normally done on press at comparatively low speeds of up to 100m/min. The easy, quick die change unit will also help speed up the production of die cut labels. The extra capacity provided by the new unit will help meet increasing customer demand and to grow the business in this important market. Another interesting feature of the machine is the Fleye Vision image control system, a camera scans the web for print faults and allows the machine to stop the material precisely at the inspection point so that the operator can remove anything suspect, splice the web & restart the rewinding process. This QC system is in addition to camera inspection on press and so improves the overall quality of our products in line with customer expectations.

Windmill are pleased to announce that we have been successfully certified to the BRC IOP hygiene and quality standard.
This stringent standard enables Windmill to deal with major food producers safe in the knowledge that our products pass all the levels of hygiene and quality required to enable our labels to be applied to food packaging. We managed an A grade pass with no non conformities listed by the assessor. Ian Shaw (ISA), our consultant explained that it was the first time that he had dealt with a business that managed no non conformities, even minor!
In other news one of our main HP Indigo 6600 operators, Joel Lockwood, recently acquired level 2 training status following a week long course at the Barcelona HP campus. Level 2 means Joel joins Ian Bosworth as our most experienced digital printers. He has come a long way since joining the business as a Siat Press (Adhesive Tape) operator.
Barcelona is where HP Indigo house their main EMEA training centre and according to Joel this looks like a university campus in it's extent!

Friday 27th Feb was an exciting day for part of the Windmill team as we held our first offsite strategy and sales session at MCFC's Etihad Stadium.
Present were Andy & Ian Southern, Claire Cowley (Customer Care), Rob Lawton (Sales), Steve Mobbs (Operations), Ian Bresolin (Digital/Artwork), Will Yoxall (Labels) & Vinny Kay (Tape). We discussed how to best promote the Windmill brand values and how to create a workable growth strategy for 2015.
Clearly the economy is picking up this year and we expect plenty of organic growth as the packaging market expands to meet demand. We feel we are well placed to keep customers happy following a year of heavy investment and streamlining our production processes during 2014.
Other developments on the digital side include Windmill being one of the first HP sites to be offered the new silver ink and relief printing. We hope these new products will be brought to market in the coming months. More on these developments when they are formally launched.
